Frequently Asked Questions about Watchdog Remote Network Monitoring:
| Q. |
Why is proactive device monitoring such an important part of comprehensive network support? |
 |
| A. |
Most organizations can't afford to have a support engineer managing their network 24 hours a day,
7 days a week on-site. Therefore, it's critical that supplemental monitoring of critical network systems
such as Dataprise's Watchdog Remote Network Monitoring be installed to perform this service when
an engineer can't be there. At Dataprise, we feel this service is so important that we've included it
in each of our unique Signature® Network Support plans.
|
 |
| Q. |
How exactly does the Watchdog process work, and do we have to purchase additional software or hardware? |
 |
| A. |
No additional hardware or software is required. Watchdog Remote Network Monitoring software is
included with all Dataprise Signature® Network Support plans. Your primary
network engineer will work with our 24x7 Help Desk support engineers as well as your own staff to identify the critical systems
on your network that should be monitored. Your primary engineer will then configure our specialized management tools
to monitor those critical systems. Note that each plan includes a base number of monitored devices, but you may
purchase additional device monitoring licenses in quantities of 5 devices or services each for an additional fee. After Watchdog Remote Network Monitoring
is configured, your network will be continuously monitored for trouble. If a problem is detected, our 24x7 Help Desk
will work to correct the problem based on your preset instructions (e.g. immediately, wait until the next
business day or simply notify you of the issue).
|
 |
| Q. |
What types of devices should be monitored? |
 |
| A. |
We will work with you to identify those systems that are critical to your business. Typically, Dataprise Watchdog Remote Network Monitoring
is configured to monitor core servers such as e-mail and Web, Internet connectivity, firewall and other applications that must always remain
highly available.

Remote, secure and reliable data backup for your critical workstations and servers. Click here
|
|
Our fully automated remote backup service provides the ability to back up critical system data
remotely and securely to our carrier grade data center right over the Internet. Featuring
automatic data compression and secure data encryption, our Remote Data Backup service helps
to ensure that your network data remains available even if a critical computer failure occurs.
NEW! Now with DualStor two level tapeless protection! Each version of the Dataprise
Remote Data Backup system now includes a secure external hard-drive for on-site backup which is itself backed up to our carrier grade data center.
Frequently Asked Questions about Remote Data Backup:
| Q. |
What additional hardware and software is required with the Remote Data Backup? |
 |
| A. |
None. When you purchase Workstation or Server licenses of our Remote Data Backup service, everything
required is included. There is no need to purchase additional backup hardware and software.
|
 |
| Q. |
Are online backup systems more reliable than traditional tape based systems? |
 |
| A. |
Yes. Repeated use of tapes can fail over time. And the fact that tape backups are generally kept
in one location make them vulnerable to loss in case of a disaster. Our Remote Data Backup systems
are physically separated from your business network ensuring redundanacy in case of a disaster at
your office. In addition, Dataprise DualStor technology provides
not one, but two ongoing backups of your critical data further increasing overall data protection and reliability.
|
 |
| Q. |
What happens if our Internet connection goes down, are backups missed? |
 |
| A. |
No. If your Internet connection goes down, our DualStor technology ensures that the local backup still takes place as scheduled. The off-site replication is delayed until the Internet becomes available
again. In the event of an Internet failure during off-site replication, the Remote Data Backup software will sense the failure and try again to complete every 5
minutes until it is successful. In addition, the replication will not start over again, but will pick up where it left off before the failure. |
 |
| Q. |
We have limited Internet bandwidth at our location, will Remote Data Backup slow down our network? |
 |
| A. |
Generally, no. The majority of the backup traffic occurrs locally to the local storage
component of the Remote Data Backup system (in your office). From there, the data is replicated to our off-site
carrier grade data center incrementaly which keeps the Internet traffic to a minimum.
Further, data replication off-site is scheduled during off hours late in the evening when your Internet
connection is less likely to be used. |
 |
| Q. |
What is compressed storage and why does the Remote Data Backup service use it? |
 |
| A. |
The Remote Data Backup system utilizes high compression to condense and archive your network data. Compression is performed locally at your network and before
your data is replicated off-site. This technique limits the amount of bandwidth required to transmit backup data over the Internet as well as minimizes transmission times.
Importantly, you can save money by purchasing less physical storage space than would otherwise be required. Since, common compression ratios average a minimum of 5:1,
you can, for example, backup 50 Gigabytes on your network, but only require 10 Gigabytes of actual off-site storage space. Note that actual compression ratios may vary
with the types of data files that are actually compressed.
|
 |
| Q. |
If we use the Remote Data Backup service, will our archived data be secure? |
 |
| A. |
Yes. The Dataprise Remote Data Backup system utilizes leading industry data encryption at the point-of-origin. Put simply, all your archived data is encrypted before any
data leaves your network and is replicated off-site. Since you keep the encryption passwords, you and only you can access your archived data. In addition, all off-site data is kept
on Dataprise secure Storage Area Networks at our carrier grade data center.
|
 |
| Q. |
Is Remote Data Backup difficult to install? |
 |
| A. |
No, and we handle it for you. One of the best parts of the Dataprise Remote Data Backup managed service is that it's worry free for
our clients. Our skilled engineers will install, configure and schedule the Remote Data Backup system on your network. Once the
Remote Data Backup system is up and running, we'll monitor the results of each backup daily from our
remote Help Desk. In the event you need to recover some or all of your data, you can do so yourself with our Web based restore features
or we'll be right beside you to help. That's the benefit of Dataprise and our Signature® Network Support.

plan clients who wish to maximize their support dollars by utilizing the same service provider for their colocation needs.
And getting started protecting your IT investment couldn't be easier we can build, test and even pick up your servers
from your office if required.
Frequently Asked Questions about Managed+ Colocation services:
| Q. |
Our servers are located at our corporate offices, why should we consider colocating? |
 |
| A. |
Dataprise offers clients the ability to house their critical server hardware in a true carrier grade data center.
Tradditionally, business located their network infrastructure, including critical servers, in their
own offices, often in a closet, small office or other unprotected space. Few smaller organizations
could afford to build their own hardened data center facilities with redundant power, secure access
and redundant high-speed Internet connectivity. Server colocation can solve these challenges quickly and
affordably. Server colocation can also save your business in the event of a natural disaster
or terrorist incident. If your office or corporate network becomes inaccessible or subject to a crisis
such as an extended power blackout, colocating your critical servers can be the difference between
catastrophic downtime and complete transparency to your employees and customers.
|
 |
| Q. |
How can colocating our servers with Dataprise help with our compliance issues? |
 |
| A. |
Colocating your organization's servers in a secure facility such as our carrier grade data center can help your organization meet many regulatory
requirements. With the passage of recent legislation such as the Sarbanes-Oxley Act, HIPPA,
and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act, it's more important than ever that organizations
take proactive steps to ensure that their systems and client data are protected. Our specialists will show you how Dataprise Managed+ Colocation Services can be a solution
for your regulatory needs.
|
 |
| Q. |
What types of servers are good candidates for off-site colocation? |
 |
| A. |
Generally, most application servers can be colocated in a high-speed, secure data center
environment. These types include e-mail (e.g. Microsoft Exchange), Web, database and remote access
(e.g. Citrix).
|
 |
| Q. |
If we don't have our own servers, can Dataprise provide us with an equipment solution as well? |
 |
| A. |
Yes. Many clients provide their own preconfigured server hardware and just need a highly redundant
colocation facility with 24x7 active monitoring. However, some clients require configured server hardware
too. In that case, Dataprise can provide powerful Dell or HP servers fully preconfigured
by our expert engineering team. And with our affordable leasing options, it's even easier than ever to have
us provide a total colocation solution.
