Challenge

A small marketing firm in Lorton, Virginia contacted Dataprise for help after a failed IT project resulted in their network becoming extremely problematic. Upon investigation, problematic was an understatement. We realized that without some quick intervention from us, a devastating scenario that could jeopardize the firm’s entire operations was too close for comfort.

In a nutshell, their network became unusable.

When we received the call the request was pretty straightforward: "please send a member of your Emergency Network Services team to step in, help us get the project back on track and complete our upgrade as quickly as possible so that our employees can get back to work".


Solution

We completely understood the urgency of their request. The current state of their network had practically halted their operations, and our customer was losing money every day that the network was down. We responded immediately by assigning a dedicated Senior Project Manager to assume management of the project.

We arrived on site within hours and quickly identified the cause of the network failure. The internal IT team had attempted to use inappropiate software tools to automatically transfer the existing network data and settings from the old hardware to the new equipment. Due to our own experience, we knew that using these types of software/tools is a very risky strategy.

Rarely does an out-of-the-box solution work for such an intricate and bespoke process.

They had incidentally configured their new equipment as an independent network; meanwhile the entire firm’s data and settings were locked into their previous configuration's processes and old hardware — most of which was now offline. As a result, users did not have access to their files, emails or any other network resources.

Our Senior Project Manager immediately got to work manually copying all data and settings from the old hardware to the new network. Beginning with the most critical data, we eventually transferred all system settings, email accounts, file shares, user login information, accounting databases and more. In less than a week we had successfully rebuilt the firm’s network from scratch and completed the data transfers. We then enabled them to resume their operations — built on a new network that was now fully configured to run at exponentially enhanced speeds and deliver optimal performance.

This experience helped the firm see the value in Dataprise’s 16+ years of experience and our deep bench of technical expertise. Shortly after we completed the project, our customer signed up for a monthly recurring network support plan and has been a recipient of our reliable, efficient network support and IT consulting services ever since.
