This month for our Women in Technology, we are spotlighting Laura O., one of our Proposal Writers! Read about her story and how she started in technology.

Tell us your story on how you got into technology.

I have always been involved in technology to some extent, but mostly in the healthcare field; writing, training, various types of IT related risk management. But a couple years ago, I felt like I really wanted to try something a bit different. So, when I learned about Dataprise, I thought it would be a good fit and a welcome challenge.

Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

I think I always knew I wanted to do something with technology, but didn’t really know where I would fit in best and how much I would really enjoy it.

How long have you been with Dataprise?

I started in March of 2024

Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

I am a proposal writer so a typical day for me involves communicating with sellers or solution engineering and writing proposals based on potential and current customer needs and their budget. When I am not doing that, I help out with content management, presentations, RFPs, and a variety of other things.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

Don’t be afraid to consider going into tech.  It’s never boring and you are always growing. There is an endless list of careers in tech, constant challenges, and the industry will always be thriving.  I wish I had realized those things sooner than I did.

Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?

I do think it is important that women be represented in greater numbers in the tech industry. I think some women tend to accept the old belief that “men are better at math and computers” and may be intimidated.  I know before I started doing more tech at my jobs, I did not realize the huge variety of careers in the tech industry. Regardless of your interests, there is probably a position that you’d love!

What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

I really enjoy the variety of people and personalities that I get to interact and work with! But a close second are the opportunities for tech related education that I have access to.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

Be sure to look at struggles as chances for growth and look for what you can learn from them

Where do you see yourself going from here?

I hope to continue learning about Managed Services, the specific technology and vendors used in our solutions, and Dataprise in general.  I really enjoy both the technical aspect of Dataprise as well as the Sales Enablement side. I’d like to have increased responsibility and move into management possibly at some point.
