This month for our Women in Technology, we are spotlighting Ashley on our Service Desk team! Read about her story and how she started in technology.

Tell us your story on how you got into technology.

My path into technology wasn’t a traditional one. Growing up, my dad worked in IT and always had a passion for technology. When I was between jobs and figuring out my next step, he encouraged me to explore the field because he believed I had the skills and mindset to succeed.

At the time, I wasn’t sure technology was where I wanted to build my career, but I decided to give it a chance. What started as an opportunity to try something new quickly became a genuine interest. As I gained experience, I discovered that I enjoy solving problems, helping people, and continuously learning. Looking back, I’m grateful that someone saw my potential before I did. Taking that chance led me to a rewarding career where I’ve been able to grow professionally and challenge myself in ways I never expected.

How long have you been with Dataprise?

About 2 years!

Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

As the Team Lead for Mission Control, my role is centered around keeping things moving. I help manage internal escalations, coordinate communication between teams, monitor ticket queues, and ensure customer issues continue progressing toward resolution. I also spend time reviewing quality metrics, customer feedback, and internal processes to identify opportunities for improvement. Every day brings a different challenge, which keeps the work interesting and gives me the opportunity to make a positive impact across multiple teams.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

My advice would be to not let the industry intimidate you. Tech can be a male-dominated field, and at times that can feel overwhelming or isolating, especially when you’re early in your career or still finding your confidence. What I wish I had fully understood earlier is that feeling out of place doesn’t mean you don’t belong. You are just as capable and deserving of your role as anyone else in the room. My biggest advice is to stay confident in your skills and take up space even when it feels uncomfortable. Over time, I’ve learned that confidence grows with experience, and it’s important to give yourself credit for what you bring to the table.

Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?

I think it’s important to have more women in tech because different perspectives lead to better ideas and stronger teams. It also helps create more representation, which can encourage other women to see tech as a space where they belong. From my experience, having other women in the workplace can make a big difference in feeling supported and confident. I think the broader community can support women in tech by encouraging inclusive workplaces, offering mentorship, and making sure women’s contributions are recognized and valued.

What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

For me, one of the best parts of being a woman in tech is just feeling proud to be here. It’s still a pretty male-dominated field, so it means a lot to be part of it and growing in it.

I also like being able to bring a different perspective into conversations and problem-solving. I think having a mix of viewpoints on a team leads to better ideas overall. Overall, it’s been rewarding to grow in the industry and feel like I’m contributing in my own way.

What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

What I enjoy most about my job at Dataprise is the problem-solving side of it. I like digging into issues, figuring out what went wrong, and helping get things back on track. I also enjoy working on improving processes and finding ways to make things run more smoothly for the team. There’s a lot of satisfaction in that investigative side of the work, and I take pride in setting high standards for myself and the quality of my work. I’ve also learned to be more comfortable with mistakes and view them as part of the learning process. This role has really put me in a constant state of learning and growth, which is what I enjoy most.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

One of the most useful reminders I’ve gotten in the workplace is to pause before reacting, especially in stressful situations. It’s easy to respond quickly in the moment, but taking a step back usually leads to better decisions. I’ve learned that staying calm and focusing on solutions instead of reacting right away makes a big difference in how I handle challenges at work.

Where do you see yourself going from here?

Right now, I see myself continuing to grow in my role and build on my leadership experience within my team. I’m focused on learning as much as I can and continuing to support my department in improving processes and performance. Long-term, I’m open to where things go. I enjoy growing in tech and learning new areas, and I’d like to keep building on that whether that’s through leadership or new opportunities down the line.
