The Teams Mobile App allows you catch up on important Teams activity, even when you can’t be at your computer. You can chat with colleagues, attend meetings, and even make and receive calls from your cellphone, all while you’re on the go!
The Teams Mobile App is available for IOS and Android. Simply search for “Microsoft Teams” in Apple’s App Store or the Google Play App Store to get started.
Please note: The following screenshots are taken from an iPhone, but the experience while using the Teams Mobile App for Android is nearly identical.
Keep up with important Teams notifications by selecting activity or the bell icon. This will show you all the notifications relating to chats, calls, channel activity, and more. With the Teams mobile app, you’ll never have to worry about missing notifications when you’re away from your desk!
Send chat messages to your coworkers or guests, even when you’re on the go! Click into any of your pre-existing chats to send a message or start a new chat using the new chat button.
Once you’re in a chat, you can access additional settings like file sharing and adding apps by clicking the plus sign in the bottom left corner. These additional settings also allow you to send your location and share images you’ve taken from your cell phone!
To access your emojis and GIFs, just select the emoji icon in the bottom right corner!
Clicking the Teams button will give you access to all your teams and channels.
When you click into a team and channel, you will have the ability to make new channel posts, access files, and utilize any tools and apps that have been added to your Teams experience!
Although you have access to all the same tools you would on when using the desktop app, engaging with these tools on the Teams mobile app can be a bit trickier than using the desktop app.
If you are needing to do important work within your channel, we do suggest trying to complete that in the desktop app, but keeping your team updated using channel posts is simple with the mobile app!
Need to join a meeting while you’re away from your computer? Simply click the calendar icon to see all your meetings for the day and week!
You can click on a meeting to join, but Teams is also smart enough to remind you to join meetings that are already in progress when using the app!
You can also join a meeting on both devices!
When you join from a second device, you’ll be given two options: “Add this device” or “Transfer to this device.” This allows you flexibility to transfer a meeting you joined on your computer to your phone, or to use both, which can be a helpful trick if you’re having audio issues with your computer!
When you join a meeting from the mobile app, your options will be similar to the join screen from the desktop app.
You can check your audio devices and select the proper mic and speakers, as well as toggle your video on and off and select different background effects.
When you’re all set up, simply hit the Join now button!
Is Teams your phone system? If so, learn how to make and take calls on your cell!
You don’t need to set up your “calls also ring” to forward all your calls to your cell phone.
Instead, the Teams mobile app allows you take and make calls from your cell phone using your Teams number!
When you click into calls, you’ll have the option to switch between your speed dial and call history, making it easy to call your frequent contacts or call someone back when you’ve missed a call.
To access your voicemail, click the voicemail icon in the top right corner.
If you want to make a call, click the phone icon in the bottom right corner. This will open the options to make a call from the dial pad.
Use your Dialpad to dial out numbers or you can click People to enter in the name of someone in your Teams organization.
If you need to retrieve a parked call, click the phone icon with the letter “P” in the top corner.
Don’t forget you’ll need the retrieval code to answer the parked call!
With the Teams app, when you receive calls, they will ring and appear just like any other phone call, but you will see under the contact’s name or number Teams Audio… to indicate that this is a Teams call.
When you answer, you’ll have the normal options you’d see when on a mobile phone call, but you’ll see the Teams icon as an option. You can click that to open your call in the Teams mobile app.
When you transfer the call to the Teams mobile app, you’ll have many of the same options as you would when using the desktop app.
Click the three dots to see what call options you have when using the mobile app!
If you are in a call with a Teams caller, you’ll have access to the chat and the ability to turn your camera on if preferred. However, you won’t see these options if the caller is not using Teams.
Within your call options, you have many of the same choices you would have on the desktop app, such as transferring or parking a call.
While you can transfer a call to someone else from the app, unfortunately, one limitation is that you cannot transfer a call directly to someone else’s voicemail.
If adding the app sounds scary because it means you’ll never be able to escape work or your phone calls, you can head into your settings to limit notifications.
You can set quiet hours with the app, so if someone calls you after hours or on your days off, you can automatically silence those notifications so you’re only being notified of calls you get during your work hours.
You also have the ability to stop duplicate notifications, so when you are active and working on the desktop app, you won’t get notifications to your phone. You can set it up so that notifications to your phone only pop up when you are away from your desktop!
To manage your notifications, you’ll need to click on your profile picture or initials to open your settings menu. Then, you’ll select notifications. From there, you’ll see the option to schedule quiet time and block notifications when you are active on your desktop.
Ultimately, the Teams mobile app can be a really powerful tool that enables you to take your work on the go.
We highly recommend you check it out and see how it can help you!
