This month for our Women in Technology, we are spotlighting Amandaour Corporate Paralegal! Read about her story and how she started in technology.

Tell us your story on how you got into technology.

Specializing in IT law is crucial because technology now underpins nearly every aspect of business, government, and personal life. I took a course in data security and privacy policy and decided I wanted to redirect my career towards technology. The role with Dataprise has given me the opportunity to make the move from property law into technology.

How long have you been with Dataprise?

Two years. I joined Dataprise in November 2023.

Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

I support our General Counsel and the business generally with all things legal, whether that we negotiation contracts with Dataprise customers, partners, vendors, or ad hoc agreements. I work closely with the finance team on collections. I also assist with corporate compliance issues with the support of the greater Dataprise Team and our General Counsel. No one day is the same in this role, which keeps it endlessly interesting.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

I would have specialized in technology coursework alongside studying law. However, there’s a lot of opportunity to learn on the job with a willingness to ask questions and work with teams outside of your specialization to learn about technology products and tools.

Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?

It’s important for everybody to learn about technology, otherwise we’ll all get left behind, both professionally and personally. I think women in technology can be supported though mentorship and ensuring there are entry level opportunities into technology roles for those with little or no experience in the industry.

What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

Tech may be seen as a male-dominated space, but at Dataprise the workspace is very diverse. As one of many women in technology, perhaps the best part is redefining the narrative.

What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

The diversity of the role keeps work interesting. Also, being in a role that works across departments, I constantly learn about tech through Dataprise offerings.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

Success in the corporate legal space isn’t just about knowing the law, it’s about collaboration, adaptability and solving problems.

Where do you see yourself going from here?

I would love to stay with Dataprise and move into a legal counsel role, but for now, I’m working on getting admission to the State Bar of California.
