Tell us your story on how you got into technology

My love for technology started very young, my dad worked at USC in the computer lab for a few years in the late ’80s to mid-90s, and it was my favorite place to go and visit. I remember being so intrigued by seeing the inside of a computer, my dad would take a computer apart for fun just to put it back together. Since that time, technology has improved so much and has made a big difference in the world today.

Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Yes, even when working retail jobs or at restaurants, I was probably happier than most to work with registers, tablets, communication devices, and anything tech-related.

How long have you been with Dataprise?

I have been with Wireless Watchdogs for 4 years then transitioned over to Dataprise for a little over a year ago. So close to 5 ½ years total 😊

Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do and what a typical day for you is like?

I started off with Wireless Watchdogs as an MDM Support Rep then transitioned into Client Support Customer Service. Now, I am the Team Lead for Tier 2 Service Desk – Mobility. We work mainly on troubleshooting devices for our clients, among other tasks. I am a very positive person and do my best every day to help maintain a positive work environment for my team. I also assist with reviewing our open cases to ensure they are handled efficiently and prioritized. I also assist Client Support Representatives by answering any questions they may have related to their tasks and ensuring they are resolved properly. I encourage my team to use communication skills, provide their technical expertise, and show empathy to our clients.

What advice would you give to women considering a career in the tech industry? What do you wish you had known?

I would let them know to GO FOR IT! I wish I had known or met more women in the tech industry growing up. Now that I have been in the industry for some years, it is so encouraging to see so many other women like me working hard every day to open room for advancement in technology.

Why do you think it’s important for more women to join the tech industry? How can the broader community support women in tech?

I think it is so important because as women, we should keep in mind that little girls look up to us as well. I have a 7-year-old and she is so excited to hear about my day at work (lol). It is good to encourage young ladies to look into their future regarding technology because it is an industry that will be around for many years to come and will always be necessary to help make life easier for everyone. I would love to see more STEM programs provided to schools, and for parents to play a bigger part by attending tech conferences with their kids. It is always great for children to see and learn about new ideas from innovative people moving up in the world of technology.

What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the tech industry?

The best part about being a woman in the industry is being taken seriously and making a positive impact. There is never a boring day at work! As a working mother, it is also a flexible career that allows me to attend my daughter’s sports games and continue to support her. I can do all of that and still be able to return to work, focus, and complete all tasks.

What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

I enjoy the problem-solving part of working in technology. Troubleshooting is one of my favorites. I have always had a love for doing puzzles and educational brain exercises that my mom would give me. At work, that is exactly how I see an issue: as another fun puzzle to solve. The feeling of resolving an ongoing short-term or long-term issue and the client’s thankful response makes my day and encourages me every day to push harder.

What is the best professional advice you’ve ever received?

To always accept and learn from feedback and criticism. This is not to hurt you but to help you better yourself and advance in your career for your future.

Where do you see yourself going from here?

I have goals and want to further myself in technology by learning more computer software programs, data science, artificial intelligence, and Cybersecurity. I would love to be able to supervise a larger team. Dataprise has given me that confidence needed to get there 😊
