Marissa: Tell us your story about how you got into the IT field.

Ashley: Growing up with a dad who was always tinkering and building computers from scratch encouraged me to take interest in technology at a young age. I still remember the joys of typing on a typewriter in grade school!

Marissa: Did you always know that working in technology was what you wanted to do?

Ashley: After I graduated college, my uncle/mentor was instrumental in encouraging me to pursue a career in technology sales. He also helped me gain an understanding of the technical and business knowledge that were required for me to succeed.

Marissa: Can you share a little bit about what it is that you do at Dataprise and what a typical day for you is like?

Ashley: I work as an Account Executive developing new business for Dataprise. I’m responsible for building relationships with potential Dataprise customers and helping determine the solutions that best fit their needs. I love that every day is different with unique challenges. On a typical day, you will find me in meetings with potential customers, understanding their pain points and requirements, managing contract negotiations, and working closely with our internal teams to craft the right solutions to present to our potential customers.

Marissa: What is one piece of advice you’d give to young women looking to get into the technology field?

Ashley: Go for it! If you like a challenge and are up for an evolving and fast-paced environment, then this is the field for you. Don’t be intimidated. A traditional technical background is not required if you’re looking to get started in the technology industry. Just walking in the door and being willing to learn will allow you to apply your unique experiences and skills to this industry, which will set you up you for success in your career.

Marissa: What do you think is the best part of being a woman in the technology industry?

Ashley: The shift of more women joining the industry AND being welcomed by companies like Dataprise is encouraging. The best part is having the chance to take an active role as the industry continues to evolve. Often times, you may be the only woman in the room, and having the opportunity to help guide strategic initiatives is empowering. This is a tremendous shift even from a decade ago. I hope to be able to mentor and encourage other young women so we can continue to see that positive change.

Marissa: What is it that you enjoy most about your current job at Dataprise?

Ashley: I enjoy working with a company that truly cares for their employees and invests back in their business. In addition, having support from the senior leadership team makes such a positive difference in my day-to-day.

Marissa: Where do you see yourself going from here?

Ashley: Continuing to challenge myself to be the best at what I do and taking advantage of any opportunity to develop my skills by getting certifications or shadowing and learning from my awesome team members.
